Experts from around the globe shape bold pathways toward a sustainable future at the G-STIC Conference in Delhi
The 7th G-STIC Conference, co-hosted by TERI and VITO, convened in New Delhi, India, on October 22–23, 2024. Centred on the theme, "Harmonising Technology, Policy, and Business Pathways for a Sustainable Future and Coexistence," 300 participants and 114 speakers were brought together to foster collaboration and innovation for global sustainability.
High-level participants included India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, who contributed to pivotal discussions on energy transition and policy integration. G-STIC Delhi reaffirmed its role as a global platform for collaboration, driving the dialogue on aligning STI with policy and business to achieve the SDGs.
The G-STIC Conference in Delhi advances pathways to achieve the SDGs
Discussions at the G-STIC Delhi spanned five thematic clusters — energy, water, health, education, and climate — each focusing on leveraging STI to tackle complex global issues. Special sessions on digital technology, climate, and food systems highlighted cross-cutting solutions designed to address interconnected challenges and drive transformative change.
Energy experts emphasised the critical role of an integrated energy mix, focusing on green hydrogen, grid modernisation, and renewables, to ensure energy security and sustainability. Water discussions centred on climate-resilient infrastructure, innovative conservation strategies, and the importance of inclusive frameworks to ensure equitable access.
In health, digital tools and decentralised approaches were highlighted as essential for building resilient systems capable of addressing inequities and improving healthcare. Education sessions explored how digital transformation and inclusive technologies can bridge learning gaps and prepare future generations for sustainable growth.
India leads energy transition with green hydrogen focus
India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Shri Puri, highlighted the transformative role of green hydrogen and biofuels in energy transition. Scaling innovations and aligning local demand with production were outlined as key strategies for sustainability. India’s ethanol blending success was cited as a model for reducing import dependency.
He also addressed the energy demands of developing nations, particularly in the Global South, emphasising the need for resilience and innovation to reduce reliance on imports.
Aligning technology and governance for SDG success
Dr. Dietrich Van der Weken, General Manager of G-STIC, emphasised the importance of aligning STI with inclusive governance to drive sustainable development. Technology is a critical enabler of progress, but success depends on integrating policies, fostering partnerships, and ensuring practical implementation.

Water and cross-sectoral collaboration for growth
Anshuman, Director of TERI, highlighted water management's links to climate, energy, and agriculture. Discussions stressed the role of innovation, such as micro-irrigation and satellite data, in advancing water security and addressing climate challenges.
He called for greater investment in water infrastructure, underscoring its pivotal role in driving economic development and sustainability, reflecting the cross-sectoral collaboration and innovation prioritised at G-STIC Delhi.
